relax - Costa RicaSpeak Spanish?Should I learn some Spanish before traveling to Costa Rica? I know some words here and there but that's about it. Comment #1 steve-o from a city that never sleeps - I would not worry too much about it. BUT i would suggest bringing an English/Spanish dictionary to help you out. But if you are staying at a resort or something, the people who work there should know enough English? Comment #2 maou from caloria - I would think that atleast the staff at the resort should know English. Sometimes even the shops that are used to tourists coming through might know atleast some english. Comment #3 Brad from Aruba - If you are asking prices and not sure have them write it down or show you in a calculator. Even if they know English... pronuncation of words like Fifteen and Fifty can sound very similar... Comment #4 lily from of the valley - I didn't think of that. It does sound a little similiar especially to someone who isn't a native speaker. I try to carry a little notepad with me in case I have a question in regards to price. It helps to write it down sometimes. Comment #5 DaConciousChick from Blue Flag State - Yes, I agree with the others on the Spanish/English dictionary. I don't really worried about speaking the language as the country that I'm visiting because I figure there has to be someone around there that speak English. LOL! Comment #6 DaConciousChick from Blue Flag State - I have a planner that has an electronic Spanish/English dictionary. It really comes and handy when I come across a word that I don't understand. Comment #7 Elizabeth26 from Strawberry Land - Well, I can fluently speak Spanish but not as fast as the natives. I am in the process of learning French. You don't have to speak Spanish but it helps.
