How do you know you've chosen someone reputable to teach you to surf? I don't want to get hurt out there. I just want to try something new.

Well, get information from the locals. You can always just purchase one hour and then if you don't like the service you have received take your business elsewhere. Plus, use the internet. You can find customer reviews on many places.

That's a good idea. And it's true if I'm not comfortable with the service I've bought, I can just go to another one. How much can it cost anyway? ;-)

I'd like to know how much a surfing instructor would cost...we are thinking of going to Hawaii for Spring Break next year with the kids and my son wants to learn how to surf. I don't want to go broke...I have a feeling my other two kids will want to do the same.

It can get pretty pricey. For example, this website below offers a 3 hours long introductory course for $130. A private lessons [two sessions a day] is $250 per person. Check out this website for more prices:

Yikes! Then even if I don't like it and I'm not comfortable, I'm pretty much stuck. And how do people do it who can't see. Don't most people where contacts? How do you keep them from popping out?

Hmm, i guess maybe they would wear one of these annoying eye shields that swimmers sometime wear?! I dunno, just guessing here! :)

I would think you'd enjoy it though. My sister learned how to surf and she is hooked!

That is quite expensive. I don't know that I'd pay that much money for a kid to learn - especially if you're just on vacation. I mean it would be a different story if you lived somewhere where you would be surfing on a regular basis and can utilize what you were taught.

$250 for two days? That's pricey. It's good that I already know how to surf. And I have friends who are good surfers.

I have always wanted to surf to! Do you wear a life jacket when you surf? When ever I see someone surfing on tv I never see them with a life jacket.

No, I really don't wear a life jacket, ever. If anything happens I think I can just swim back. I think all surfers are good swimmers.
