Drinking water?

Fantastic Winter Savings to RIU Resorts from $584 with Air!

I was just wondering if it's true about what they say about the water in Mexico? Do you really get sick if you drink it?

It is a distinct possiblity. And if you do... you will *NEVER* drink the water again.

Different people may be affected differently... in other words, the locals may well drink the water with impunity.

The problem is you won't know if the water will affect you badly, unless you try it! Not a nice catch-22. Drink bottled water.

Thank you, I will definetly stick to the bottled water. I take it the locals are just immune to the effects of the water?

Yes I would also take some drinking water to be on the safe side. The last thing anyone wants is to get sick while vacationing.

When we were in Mexico, I made sure that my kids drank bottled water and asked for it at restaurants. I also did not let the kids have ice in their drinks either. I was afraid the ice was made from tap water.

Yup, i vote bottled water. It's just better to be safe than sorry right? That's my motto heh.

Comment #6 Jade from The Net -

Well, the only city I have been in is Juarez and if you have been there you will know, don't ever drink the water. I had some great mixed drinks though. I wouldn't eat the food from the street vendors either.

Comment #7 Karen from Land of the Sun -

I went to Mazatlan one year for a senior trip and that was one thing that they reiterated to us over and over and over - DO NOT DRINK THE WATER. We even used bottled water when we brushed our teeth.

Comment #8 Grace from Vacation World -

I am hesitant to drink any kind of water in a foreign country. I don't care where it is, I try to stay away from it and always ask for bottled water.

Comment #9 Betty from Boop City -

Of course the locals don't get sick from the water...they've been drinking "their own water" for years. Buy some bottled water. It's worth it.

Comment #10 steve-o from a city that never sleeps -

Yeah the locals just adjust to the water. Think about it, sometimes even foreign food can be really hard for travellers to adjust to. Our bodies are just not used to food and water in other countries. People with really senstive stomaches need to be careful too.

Comment #11 MissCrissy from Hanging around -

I drink bottled water on cruise ships and I drank bottled water in England.

When the Mexican people travel here, they run the same risk of getting sick from the water. It's not because the water is bad, it's because it's different.

Comment #12 Callie from someplace else -

I wouldnt take a chance. Bring bottled water with you. What a waste of time for you and loss of money if you got sick during your vacation because you didn't have any bottled water with you? Better safe than sorry, that's what I always say.

Comment #13 maou from caloria -

I never risked it. My friend did when we went and he regretted it 24 hours later. I would rather just drink bottle water. I don't eat anything from street venders either.

Comment #14 Bartimaeus from Other World -

Only drink bottled water and never ever ice. It's better to be safe than sorry! You really wouldn't want to have travellers diarrhea.
