Cancun Cheap Hotel or Expensive Fantastic Winter Savings to RIU Resorts from $584 with Air!Jade from The Net -
Ok, we may be in Cancun for spring break. I am thinking of just getting a cheap hotel considering we won't be there very often :) Is that ok, or would it be best to stay in a nicer hotel for the security?

I would definitely stay in a nicer hotel. It's worth the money. I'd be too paranoid if I were in a cheap hotel...you just never know. Better to be safe than sorry.

I've always had my best times at cheap hotels and especially cheap bed and breakfasts. Cheap as in low cost, family run... as opposed to sleazy. The best is a bed and breakfast where you interact with the other guests and owners. Beats an expensive sterile hotel room any day.

I vote nicer and more expensive hotel because sometimes the cheaper hotels can be more dangerous. Or just have really bad service or be dirty. Better safe than sorry?

I've never had any problem in 11 countries outside the USA following my low cost, family run hotel or B&B theory. I don't believe the object of travel is to stay in your hotel room any more than necessary.I am not often disappointed with an more expensive place as you expect more, so if it more likey to be less than you expect. No hot water or even enough cold water to flush a toilet in the afternoon from a $65/night place, where a $20-$25/night place never had water problems (and told you what hours it was hot). I've not found "cheap" hotels to be sleazy like in the USA.
